Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens
On the Northern slope of Victoria Peak lies the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens. This 5.4 hectare park was formed in 1871 as a Botanical Garden and has been a popular spot ever since its opening. Over the years the garden slowly grew to include animals, which now occupy a large part of the gardens.

The Zoo takes up about half of the garden, and provides hours of entertainment for kids and adults alike. Animals were first introduced into the gardens in 1876, and the collection has grown considerably over the years to include over 600 birds, 40 reptiles and 70 mammals. Come face to face with a Jaguar in the Jaguar Enclosure, or watch the Orangutans swing through their cage. The Mammal Enclosure are also home to many endangered species such as the White-face Saki and the Siamang, and the zoo is dedicated to studying and facilitating the breeding and conservation of these rare animals.

The Aviary is full of fascinating birds, including the American Flamingo, the Palawan Peacock Peasant, and White Winged Wood Duck. The Reptile house is sure to be a fun and cringe-worthy experience, with its giant Bermese Python. Also in the Reptile House are a variety of cute turtles.

The Botanical Gardens provide a stunning walk through some of the most exotic plants in the world. Containing over 1000 different species of plantlife, the garden is a place of natural beauty and serenity. The Gardens also hold a wide variety of native and foreign trees, all with identity labels that can be seen while walking along the footpaths. The Greenhouse contains some rare and gorgeous species, including various orchids, ferns and climbers.

If parents want to rest their feet for a bit a trip to the playground is a great place to take a break while the kids burn off some energy. There are also bathroom facilities, as well as a refreshment stand.
