Hong Kong Space Museum
One of the best museums to visit while in Hong Kong is the fantastic Hong Kong Space Museum. Located in an old railway terminal, the museum was constructed in 1977 and its huge 8000 square foot dome renders it one of the most well-known landmarks in Hong Kong.

The dome-shaped structure makes up the eastern wing of the building, and houses the museum's Space Theatre and the Hall of Space Science. The western wing contains the Hall of Astronomy, the Lecture Hall and the Gift Shop.

The Space Theatre is one of the most interesting areas of the museum. Situated inside the building's huge dome structure, it regularly shows top quality Omnimax Films, which is a film experience in which the movie is projected all around the audience, bringing viewers right into the center of the action. The Space Theatre also shows multi-media planetarium shows, and was the first planetarium to possess a fully automated control system for such shows.

The Hall of Space Science hosts the majority of the museum's exhibitions and displays. The Ancient Astronomical History area takes visitors through a full-scale Stonehenge replica, and can try to recognize the stars through a replica of Xuanji, used by the ancient Chinese. The Space Station Area takes visitors through a full-size replica of a future space station, and the fascinating Science Fiction area explores the literature, art and motion picture world of space travel. The exhibit even includes a place where visitors can create their own alien life forms! The Launch Vehicles exhibits have tons of different launch methods, and the Manned Spaceflight area explores the training and missions endured by astronauts.

The hall of astronomy is full of fascinating and interesting exhibits on stars, galaxies and space, the sun and the universe. Observational Astronomy explores optics with telescopes, fiber optics displays, and experiments for visitors to partake in. The Solar Science exhibit projects a real time image of the sun with a solar telescope, and also explores fluorescents and electromagnetic radiation. The Universe exhibit contains an amazing florescent model of the Milky Way, which housed in a dark enclosure for spectacular viewing.
